Breast Cancer Symptoms To Look Out For
Caring for our health should be a top priority for each and every one of us. This means keeping on top of our both our physical and emotional well being by living a healthy lifestyle, as well as having regular check-ups with our doctor to confirm that we are indeed as healthy as we feel.
However, just feeling physically healthy is not always the best indicator that we are completely healthy. There are some illnesses that are difficult to detect unless we are specifically looking out for them. Breast cancer is one such disease that can go undetected for long periods of time until it is in its later stages.
Because general health is not usually affected in breast cancer, it can be difficult to recognize when it develops. However, there are some important symptoms of breast cancer that you should know to be looking for on a regular basis.
The most common of breast cancer symptoms is a lump found in the breast that feels different to the touch than the surrounding tissue. This might be found during the course of a breast self exam or one from physician. The fact is, though, that not all lumps found are actually cancerous. To be sure, though, any lump should be checked out by a physician.
There are a number of other breast cancer signs to watch out for. Some of these are not sure signs of breast cancer, but may signal some other breast disorder. Still, they may be breast cancer symptoms as well, and should be evaluated by a physician. They include:
*The change in size or shape of one breast
*dimpling of the skin on the breast
*discharge from the nipple, usually bloody
*inversion of the nipple
Inflammatory breast cancer (IBC) occurs when breast cancer cells enter the small lymph vessels on the skin of the breast. In this case, the skin becomes inflamed. There may be swelling, pain, redness, warmth and a dimpled texture to the skin.
Paget’s disease of the breast is a syndrome in which about half of the women have a lump in the breast. For this reason many of the symptoms of the disease can also be considered to be breast cancer signs.
Looking out for breast cancer symptoms is something that every woman should do. It is true that a large percentage of breast cancer diagnoses start with a woman noticing a lump and having it looked at. However, sometimes this happens when the tumor has developed to a later stage.
In order to ensure early diagnosis, it is very important for women over the age of 35 to have a screening every year. Going in for a breast exam and mammogram may not be anyone’s cup of tea, but it is the best way to discover breast cancer symptoms that can lead to an early diagnosis and allow for a better prognosis.
